Hardware builds a dark copy of Quicksilver to frame him and take the bank planet, and the visual rule is beautifully simple. Same silver suit, same blue visor, darker complexion, and every laser and power he uses comes out red where Quicksilver’s is blue.
The consequences are far larger than a one-off villain usually gets. Lord Cash is taken in, Stargazer is ordered to disband the SilverHawks, and only surveillance footage from Brim*Star clears Quicksilver. Darkbird returns once more as recycled footage inside The Hardware Trap - Part I, so in practice he is a single-episode character with a two-episode credit.
What he actually is has never been settled. The ThunderCats wiki calls him a clone and describes Hardware hatching him, a word that sits badly against a thing built out of parts, while Wikipedia calls him an evil robotic duplicate. Star Comics redrew the visor red. The cartoon’s is blue.
Voice. Wikipedia credits Peter Newman, which is at least internally coherent, since Darkbird is a Quicksilver duplicate and Newman is the consensus Quicksilver. The fan wiki leaves the field empty.
