Sideman matters more than the other three Fighting Hawks, because Bluegrass has no built-in weapons and the bird is a large part of what he can actually do in a fight.
It launches from the Hot-Seat, converts out of guitar form, and fires lasers from the headstock, including a rope-like binding beam. It destroys eight Sky-Shadows on its debut, amplifies a beam against Halley’s Comet in Music of the Spheres, breaks Bluegrass’s fall down a mine shaft and then carries a coded message home in Limbo Gold Rush, and is turned against him when the mind-controlled Hotwing takes it in The Illusionist.
One correction is worth making. Wikipedia describes Sideman as only a toy-line rendering of Bluegrass’s instrument. The bird is on screen in at least four episodes, so that is wrong.
