Hardware cannot fly, and Prowler is the answer to that. Its stated purpose is compensation, which makes it the only Mob bird with a job description rather than a weapon list.
It first appears at the Penal Planet 10 breakout that Buzz-Saw cuts open, and Hardware uses it immediately to reach Hawk Haven and blast Quicksilver into space. Its inactive form is a crowbar-like cylinder carried in the Roll-Up Bag, unfolding when a switch is thrown, and it is the only Mob bird given a stated stowed state. Six appearances in all.
It is one of four Mob birds Kenner produced, sold as “Hardware with Prowler” with a Prowler Launcher in the 1987 second wave, which the transformerland collector’s guide confirms independently.
