Everything MonStar is depends on this. Its light restores his eye and drives the transformation the show runs almost every week, and it is a MoonStar burst reaching his cell that gets him off Penal Planet 10 in the first place. Hardware later builds a power pack that carries MoonStar light around with him, and a broken chunk of the thing, the MoonStone, supercharges Mon*Star in the episode that takes its name.
The series never says what the Moon*Star actually is. A red dwarf or a flare star is the obvious guess and one wiki makes it, but that is a reader’s inference rather than anything the show states, and it is not promoted here.
